She is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, she is also a member of the British Sleep Society, and has published several publications about sleep and game theory.

Her tips include:

1. Find the right mattress for you

It’s important to find the right bed for you. Dr Lindsay advises the importance of making sure your hips and shoulders are properly supported.

2. Don’t eat big meals before bed

Dr Lindsay advised not to eat big meals before going to bed as your body will be digesting the food and it can cause indigestion.

3. Don’t go to bed hungry

Going to bed hungry can be equally as disruptive to your sleep as it can cause adrenaline. Instead she advised something with complex carbohydrates and dairy before bed. Her advice would be a glass of milk and an oat cookie.

4. Don’t go to bed stressed

It’s not surprising that stress can disrupt sleep. Going to sleep is a lot easier when you are relaxed according to Dr Lindsay. This is because stress can cause cortisol which makes the body stay more alert.

5. Have a set sleep schedule

Dr Lindsay advises going to bed at the same time each day and getting up at the same time each morning. This ensures that you prioritise sleep and also helps you to have a strong circadian rhythm, so that falling asleep will be easier.
