Pensacola will soon be the second home of a popular Milton home improvement store.

Bob Hanley is planning a soft opening Saturday for HBM, his discounted home improvement retail store. HBM will open at 3840 W. Navy Blvd inside of an approximate 5,000 square-foot space.

Hanley said he’s already filling the building from wall to wall with name brand pressure washers, blowers, grills, appliances and more.

Social, mobile key digital channels for home improvement advice

January 21, 2014

For brands and retailers in the home improvement sector, ecommerce was not an option in the initial phase of digital commerce, but improving technology and shifting consumer behaviors are changing that, according to a new eMarketer report, “Home Improvement: The Digital Tool Kit Inspires Do-It-Yourselfers.”

Digital transactions for home improvement products remain rare, making up a tiny portion of the whole—albeit one that is growing rapidly. But digital channels play an important role in the research, planning and shopping phases of home improvement—wherever and however a final sale occurs. As in almost every vertical, the path to purchase is increasingly an amalgam of digital and real-world experiences.

How to Apply for Federal Home Improvement Grants

frank lampard

In contrast to a loan, a grant is money that you’re given for a specific purpose that you don’t have to pay back. The United States government has grants available for all kinds of home improvements. To qualify for one of these grants, you have to show what home improvements are necessary and that you can’t afford to pay for the home improvements. Some are only for people over 62 (for instance the Section 504 home repair program.) If you’re approved, you’ll receive the money and will be able to start renovating your home. Here are some tips on how to apply for a grant [source: Government Grants, Yale].

  1. Locate and contact your local government office. Government representatives there will be able to advise you about eligibility requirements and other necessary criteria for applying for a grant.
  2. Speak to a government representative in your area and demonstrate that you

Quarantine means spending way more time at home—and for some people, that also means noticing everything you want to change about your space. But is now a good time to take on a major renovation project?

Probably not, experts say.

“If you’re not already in the middle of a renovation, I don’t think right now is the time to start a big project,” says Katie Kurtz, a real estate agent in Minneapolis and home design blogger at Adorned Homes. “You could get into the middle of it and realize you need help with it, and you’re probably not going to be able to find anyone to come in.”

In compliance with social distancing guidelines, many contractors are limiting the number of people on work sites, which means projects are taking longer than usual, Kurtz says.

But even DIY projects come with challenges during a pandemic.
